Fall 2010 Film Contest

In a land where film reigns supreme, in a time before finals, at a school with an HUTV/UC Camera initiative, one student must stand alone. That student is you. Because this time…

It’s personal.

HUTV Film Contest – Fall 2010

So maybe you won’t stand alone, but with the support of HUTV, you can make your own narrative film about whatever you want – as we said, this time, it’s personal. This fall HUTV is sponsoring a film contest. We strongly encourage people to make new shorts, specifically for this contest, although you may submit older shorts (if they have not been in HUTV film contests). And we’ll give you the camera to do it! There are only a few rules.

1.     Your film must be five minutes or less. We want to keep these short and fun so that (a) we can support as many films as possible, and (b) other students can see as many of these films as possible.

2.     Your film should be a fiction film about a subject of your choosing. Something personal, either in theme or in interest. Now that’s not too strict.

3.     Your film should not use excessive profanity and should not include unnecessary obscenity. The HUTV Board reserves the right to disqualify submissions for this reason. If after submission a film is deemed to be objectionable, HUTV will explain why and will give the entrant an opportunity to remove said obscenity.

4.     Your film cannot include Chris Liberge speaking to his iChat camera.

Submissions are due on Nov 29. All submissions will be featured on the HUTV website and shown at the HUTV showcase during the beginning of reading period. A select number of films will be put to a vote, meaning you, the HUTV community, gets to decide the winner of this contest! Prizes to be announced!

Let us know if you plan to enter or need equipment by emailing  -- GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Please respond to Sean Goller () with your proposed idea, a script, or finished film. If you’d like to use an HUTV camera, beware: there are only a few available, so only those who’ve demonstrated effort in pre-production will be given cameras. Show us that you care! And good luck!

No time for the contest, but still got a passion project? Got films longer than 5 minutes that you’d like to put on the HUTV website? HUTV is looking to expand our database of student produced content and we'd love to feature your work on our website. We're creating a centralized page of Harvard student videos of all kinds. Got a short project you're trying to distribute? Trying to get more views on that YouTube sketch you made? HUTV wants to take your films and help our community and the outside world get easy access to the movies we make. So send us the link, and we’ll get it posted!
