John Lesher is a graduate of Harvard University and began his career as an agent at the Bauer-Benedek Agency. He then went on to be a partner at United Talent Agency, followed by the Endeavor Agency. He worked with such diverse talent as Martin Scorsese, Paul Thomas Anderson, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Walter Salles, Fernando Meirelles, Sydney Pollock, Bennett Miller, Judd Apatow, Adam McKay, Harrison Ford, and Ben Stiller.
In 2005, Lesher left Endeavor to form Paramount Vantage, where he was responsible for such films as An Inconvenient Truth, Babel, There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men. In 2008, he was appointed President of the Paramount Pictures, working on studio titles such as Star Trek, Up In the Air, Benjamin Button, Transformers and Shutter Island, among others. During that time, he guided the studio to 49 Academy Award nominations, 13 wins, and 1 Best Picture.
In 2009, he started his own production company, Le Grisbi Productions. He is developing feature projects at numerous studios, and his first will be Paul Thomas Anderson's next film, starring Phllip Seymour Hoffman and Jeremy Renner. He also signed a first look deal with HBO, and has quickly set three promising projects into development. Most recently, he acquired the rights with HBO to develop The Three Weissmann’s of Westport, based on Cathleen Schine’s bestselling book of the same name, as a series.
He's also set up an original pitch from Ghost World scribe Dan Clowes, and is developing a series based on Joel Kostman’s collection of New York stories, Keys to The City, which Academy Award winner Bill Monahan is developing for James Gandolfini to star.
